HBO’s Westworld is Their Largest Debut in 3 years
Westworld, the futuristic Western, based on Michael Crichton’s 1973 movie, has become HBO’s most-watched series premiere in nearly three years, attracting 3.3 million viewers in the US for the opening episode.
This makes Westworld HBO’s most successful drama series premiere since True Detective pulled in 2.3 million viewers across all platforms when it was first broadcast in January 2014.
Westworld also beat the 2011 series premiere of Game of Thrones, which attracted 2.2 million TV viewers on the evening it debuted.
Despite the show’s ratings success (each episode has garnered an average of 12 million viewers), HBO programming president Casey Bloys is yet to commission it for another season – stating that its future is “…looking really good.”
